About Brisbane, Queensland
Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, and the most populated city in that area. Indeed, it has the third highest population in the whole of Australia, with 2.4 million people living in the main metropolitan area alone.
It is one of the oldest cities in the whole of Australia, and it was named after Sirt Thomas Brisbane, a Scotsman who was the governor of New South Wales in the early 1820s. The area was chosen as a settlement place for secondary offenders from the Sydney Colony, and grew to become one of the most populated areas, and a thriving economic, tourist and research center over time.
Today, Brisbane attracts a lot of tourists who come to visit the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast resorts. It has played host to many international sporting events, and it has a thriving theatre and music scene. The Queensland Gallery of Modern Art plays host to a lot of incredible art displays, and the Performing Arts Center features the OperaQueensland, the Queensland Ballet, and many other professional groups.
There are several sporting venues in the area, including the Ballymore Stadium, the Gabba, and the Suncorp Stadium as well as the State Tennis Center. Rugby, AFT and Tennis are popular sports.
Visitors can also enjoy cycling around the Brisbane River, and fishing in the Moreton Bay. Other popular attractions include climbing at Kangaroo Point Cliffs, and taking a day trip to the Australia Zoo.
Brisbane attracts around 1 million international visitors per year, as well as a huge number of domestic visitors. It is a popular, fashionable and youthful city, and it is a great destination for families and solo travelers alike. It is pedestrian friendly, and many people use segways as a way to get around the main attractions in the city center itself.
