Located approximately 175 kilometres or 109 miles south of Perth is the coastal city of Bunbury, Western Australia. Bunbury is among the top three largest cities in the state and has a population of a little less than Mandurah. In 1836, Bunbury was commissioned under the orders of the governor at the time, Governor James Stirling. Bunbury got its name from its founder, Henry Bunbury who was a Lieutenant at the time.

Soon after, a port was constructed on a natural existing harbour where it became the main port used for the South West district. In 1893, economic growth came as a result of the completion of the South Western Railway, this generated the link between Perth and Bunbury. As of 2007, the city of Bunbury was considered to be the fastest growing city in Australia during the period of 2005 and 2006. The population recorded as of June 2015 was that of 75628 and its populations average age was 36 in 2011.

The general population of Bunbury consists of a 74 percentage who were born in Australia. In addition, the other common countries of birth included 6.3 percent from England, 3.4 percent from New Zealand, 1.8 percent from South Africa, 0.8 percent from Scotland and 0.7 percent from the Philippines. As of 2011, 27.2 percent of the population had no religion, 22.7 percent represented Anglican, 22.2 percent were Catholics, 3.7 percent were that of the Uniting Church and 3.3 percent were Christians. Bunbury’s population has some common occupations which include trade workers and technicians, professionals, administrative and clerical workers and labourers. As of 2011, their unemployment rate was that of 4.9 percent.
