Interesting Facts About Kalgoorlie, Western Australia

Kalgoorlie is formally known as Kalgoorlie-Boulder and is located within the region known as Goldfields-Esperance of Western Australia which is about 595 km or 370 miles just on the east-northeast ends of Perth. In 1989, the city was established as a result of the amalgamation of two towns, Boulder and Kalgoorlie. This was as a result of Western Australia’s Coolgardie gold rush in 1893.

In addition, it was also the destinations of both the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail and the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme. As of June 2015, the population of Kalgoorlie is estimated to be 32797. The town is a regional centre and has a Chamber of Minerals and Energy as well as a Chamber of Commerce.

As of 1992, the town has been a home to the Diggers And Dealers conference which is held in August of each year, and it is also the home of the Australian Prospectors And Miners’ Hall of Fame. Kalgoorlie also has an open-cut gold mine known as the Super Pit. The pit was created by Alan Bond and it is about 1680 feet or 512 miles deep, 1.6 km or 1 mile wide and 3.6 km or 2.2 miles long.

Mr. Alan Bond bought several mining leases in order to acquire the land needed to create the Super Pit. Due to the excavation work on the site, old vehicles and abandoned equipment are found from time to time, and has led to the revelation of earlier mines. The mine is operational 24 hours of each day and contains a visitor centre which overlooks it. Every day at 1pm the mine is blasted and the trucks used in hauling operations transport 225 tonnes of rock, the mine is said to be productive until 2029.

As we conclude, Kalgoorlie is also known for its diverse culture as well as a high local interest in both sports and the arts. Kalgoorlie is indeed the home of mining operations.
